After facing back-to-back ranked teams this weekend, Sacramento State women’s tennis (5-6) was unable to pull out consecutive upsets, and in today’s match against No. 64 Saint Mary’s College the women were swept by the Gaels, 7-0.

The Gaels came out with a striking force in doubles, closing down Ana Loaiza Esquivias and Daria Savchenko 6-2 in position No. 3. Danielle Flores and Mary-Anne Jessup defeated Sac State’s Deimante Bulatovaite and Alina Soltanici 6-3 in doubles No. 2 to award Saint Mary’s with the first point of the match.

In doubles No. 1, Olivia Boija and Jennifer Ong faced Division I ranked No. 44 duo Parminder Kaur and Jana McCord, but the contest was left unfinished due to the clinch in doubles No. 2.

Saint Mary’s had a pair of nationally ranked Division I singles players as well. No. 70 Flores defeated Sac State’s No. 1 player Soltanici 6-3, 6-1 in straight sets to hand the Gaels their third point.

No. 99 McCord finished off redshirt freshman Anna-Maria Nau in position No. 2 at 6-3, 6-2. This was the fifth singles match to conclude.

The decisive point came in singles No. 5, where Sac State’s Savchenko recorded her second loss this season in singles to Kareena Manji, who won 6-2, 6-3. Saint Mary’s was up 4-0 at this point.

Savchenko’s doubles partner, Loaiza Esquivias, was the only woman to win a set for the Hornets this afternoon in singles No. 6, but ultimately fell 6-3, 5-7, 0-1.

Up next, the women will compete at home against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, March 7, at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
