Women’s tennis swept in regular season finale

The injury plagued Sacramento State women’s tennis team was swept in its regular season finale against No. 10 UC Berkeley on Thursday in Berkeley, Calif.

The Hornets were swept in doubles (8-3, 8-2, 8-2) as the Bears featured two nationally ranked doubles teams.

Senior Sophie Lohscheidt and sophomore Olivia Boija went down in doubles match No. 1 to the Bears No. 70-ranked Lynn Chi and Anett Schutting. In doubles match No. 2, sophomore Daria Savchenko and freshman Deimante Bulatovaite fell to Cal’s No. 35-ranked Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr.

In singles, the Hornets faced five nationally ranked singles players, and the Bears were dominant over Sac State, winning all the matches in straight sets.

Savchenko replaced the injured freshman Alina Soltanici who is out with an ankle injury in singles position No. 1. The sophomore was overpowered against No. 32-ranked Denise Starr at 6-1, 7-5.

Senior captain Lohscheidt battled it out against No. 21-ranked Zsofi Susanyi, but fell 7-5, 6-2. Cal completed the 7-0 sweep after the result of this match.

Sac State will be returning home to host the Big Sky Championship beginning April 25 at the Gold River Racquet Club. The Hornets (9-16, 7-3) will be seeking their 13th Big Sky Conference title as they enter the tournament in third place .
