Sand volleyball falls to 0-6 after losing three weekend matches

The Sacramento State women’s sand volleyball team played a two matches on Saturday and one on Sunday coming up winless at the Sacramento Softball Complex.

The Hornets fell to UC Berkeley 2-3, Santa Clara University 0-5, and Boise State 2-3.

The first match for Sac State on Saturday was against Cal. The Hornets had two victories against Cal. The No.1 duo of seniors Kayla Beal and Katie Aprile, won their match in three sets 21-18, 20-22, 15-6. and No.4 freshman Lexie Skalbeck and senior Chelcy Motes, won in three sets as well 21-18, 19-21, 16-14.

The No.2 team of sophomores Sloan Lovett and Lauren Aikels and No.5 freshmen Courtney Dietrich and Kendall LaVine both lost in straight sets. Lovett and Aikels lost their match 18-21, 10-21. Dietrich and LaVine lost 8-21, 18-21.

The No.3 pairing of freshmen Morgan Stanley and Madeline Cannon took the first set but dropped the next two, losing 21-11, 17-21, 12-15.

The Hornets second match of the day came against Santa Clara. The Hornets were unable to win in any of the dual matches. Only two of the pairs were able to force three sets in their respected match.

Beal and Aprile lost 16-21, 21-17, 13-15. Stanley and Cannon also played three sets but fell 21-16, 13-21, 13-15.

The final match of the tournament for the Hornets came on Sunday morning against Boise State. Sac State played tough but ended up losing by one.

The Hornets got victories from Beal and Aprile as they won 21-18, 18-21, 15-13, and Cannon and Stanley 21-15, 21-7. The other three doubles teams for the Hornets all lost in straight sets.

Sac State now has a record of 0-6 on the season. The Hornets will have a chance to get its first win, Saturday when they travel to Berkeley,Calif to take on Cal and Cal Poly.
