Women’s tennis loses by one point to TCU

For the fourth time this year, Sacramento State women’s tennis team came up one point short in its loss against Texas Christian University, 4-3 in Seattle on Friday.

The Hornets claimed the doubles point, but were unable to convert in single matches coming out with only two wins. The Horned Frogs improved their record to 5-5 while handing the Hornets their sixth loss on the season.

No. 61 TCU was victorious in four singles matches shutting out Sac State in just two sets.

The Horned Frogs No. 53-ranked singles player, Stefanie Tan, defeated Hornets sophomore Jennifer Nguyen in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1.

Sac State was winners in its tiebreaker situations over TCU at No. 1 and 2 in doubles play. However, successful Hornets duo, senior Katharina Knoebl and freshman Alina Soltanici, picked up their first doubles loss of the season losing 8-5.

Sophomore Daria Savchenko improved to 3-0 this season at No. 3 singles. Senior Sophie Lohscheidt was able to pull out the Hornets other singles victory over TCU’s Monika Sirilova 7-6, 6-2 at No. 5.

On Sunday, Sac State (1-6) is set to face No. 24 Washington in Seattle. The first match begins at 12 p.m.
