The Sacramento State men’s golf team took 11th place at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, with junior Owen Taylor finishing in second place in a tournament filled with talent.

Taylor tied for eighth with the lowest score through 54 holes in Sac State history, with his impressive 71-67-72-210 line. Taylor had a shot at winning the tournament, but lost in a sudden death playoff hole to New Mexico’s Gavin Green.

After both having scores of 210, Taylor and Green shot even on the first playoff hole, before Green took the win on a missed putt by Taylor.

This marks Taylor’s fifth straight tournament in which he has placed inside the top 15, and his third tournament this year breaking into the top five.

Following Taylor, junior Luke Kristo tied for 30th overall. After playing consistently through rounds one and two, Kristo ended the third round at 4-over par for the tournament.

After going 6-over par in the first round, freshman Cody Bates found his groove. In the second round he went even par, and after having four birdies in the third round, he finished with a 5-over par third due to three double bogeys. Bates finished the tournament with an 11-over par and tied for 69.

Freshman Robert Parden and senior Jordan Swanson rounded out the team for the Hornets. Swanson was on his game early, shooting even par through the first round. He struggled in the second round, including a 4-over par on the first hole. Swanson ended the tournament in 75th place shooting 15-over par. Parden got off to a rocky start totalling a 10-over par stat line in round one. He settled in as the tournament progressed and ended with a 19-over par and tied for 77th place.

Up next for Sac State will be the UCSB Invitational in Santa Barbara, Calif. on April 14, 15.
