The Sacramento State men’s tennis team fell to the University of Idaho, a non-conference opponent, in its first match back on the Sac State campus, Tuesday.

Due to having the courts resurfaced at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club, the Hornets usual home court, they held the match at Sac State.

Missing junior Marek Marksoo, the Hornets lost 4-1. This was the first of four games that will be played on the Sac State campus going through next Thursday.

The lone bright spot on the day for the Hornets was sophomore Niranjan Ram’s fifth straight win. Playing at No. 2, Ram won 6-2, 7-5. Fellow sophomore Joaquin Marquez put up a solid effort, but fell short. Marquez had back-to-back tie breakers, losing 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4).

After junior Oliver Andersen lost in three sets at No. 5, the final two matches went unfinished. Junior Tom Miller, playing at No. 3 was tied at 3-3 when the match was halted. Another match that was stopped involved freshman Ayman Abdulwahab. Playing at No. 6, Abdulwahab was leading 2-1 in the third set, but because the Vandals had already won its fourth point, it made the two matches irrelevant.

Doubles was more of the same for the Hornets. Idaho won matches at No.1 and No.2. Abdulwahab and Brandy’s match was stopped, playing at No.3 which secured the point for the Vandals.

The Hornets have two conference matchups next week, but they will first face the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Thursday at 2 p.m. The next three matches will all be played at the tennis courts at Sac State.
