Men’s tennis serves up a loss against New Mexico State

The Sacramento State men’s tennis team lost in a non-conference match to New Mexico State University, Saturday at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club after coming off back-to-back wins last weekend.

The Hornets lost the match 5-2 to the Aggies.

With the loss, the Hornets drop to 4-10 on the season. The team was led by junior Marek Marksoo and sophomore Niranjan Ram. It was the first time since Mar. 2 that Marksoo has taken the court for Sac State.

Marksoo won at No. 1, 7-5, 6-3. Ram won his match at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.

Juniors Roy Brandys and Tom Miller lost in singles competition, playing at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Sophomore Joaquin Marquez was also defeated in his match at No. 5.

In doubles play, the only victory for the Hornets came from Brandys and freshman Ayman Abdulwahab. They won their match at No. 3, but New Mexico State won at No.1 and No. 2, securing the point.

This was the last match the Hornets will play at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club during this homestand. The next four matches will be played at Sac State.

The Hornets will look to rebound from the match when they take on Idaho State, Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
