The Sacramento State men’s tennis team lost its fifth straight as it fell at the hands of Montana State, 4-3 Sunday afternoon.

The loss brings the Hornets record to 2-8, and 0-2 in Big Sky Conference matchups.

The Hornets were tied 3-3 going into the final match as junior Oliver Andersen took on Montana State’s Kenny Dodd. Andersen dropped the first set 7-5, but won the second set 4-6. Dodd outplayed Andersen in the third set winning 6-1.

In doubles competition, at match No.1, juniors Tom Miller and Marek Marksoo lost in a tiebreaker, giving the Montana State Bobcats the victory. This win gave them two out of three doubles matches, winning the point.

Sac State was strong in singles matches where Marksoo won at No.1, junior Roy Brandys won at No.2 and sophomore Niranjan Ram won at No.3.

The Hornets lost Saturday to Montana and this is the first time since 1997 that the Hornets have dropped two conference matches to start a season.

Panic might be setting in for the Hornets as they have been hit with injuries, and have not fully recovered. The Hornets were picked to win the Big Sky to begin the year, but they have hit a rough patch to start the season.

The Hornets will look to rebound as they play at home against San Francisco on Saturday. The match begins at 1 p.m.
