Softball heads out on long road trip to start season

State Hornet Staff

With the season literally around the corner for Sacramento State softball, the Hornets will be traveling to 14-straight road games to start the season. This is the ninth time since 1990 that Sac State will be playing more than 10 away games to start this season.

While a majority of the games are on the road this season, some include tournaments on neutral fields.

This will be the second out of the last three seasons in which the Hornets will spend at least a week on the road. In 2012 the team spent one week traveling and this season Sac State will spend nine days on the road.

If the Hornets want to start the season off on the right foot, they will have to look at what the 2003 team did. In that year the Hornets capped of the road trip with a nine game win streak.

What the Hornets do not want to see happen is a season in which they start at least seven games behind .500, like in 2007 and 2009. However, Sac State did finish those seasons strong; in 2007 Sac State won 11 out of its final 20 games and in 2009 the Hornets went 14-6 in their last games.

Sac State will start this nine day road trip against UC Davis today at 1:30 p.m.
