Sacramento State’s Alle Moreno broke the Big Sky Conference record for most 3-point attempts, finishing with 725, but the Hornets struggled from the field in its road loss at Idaho State (7-11, 5-4), Thursday.
The senior, Moreno, contributed with 11 points, but the Hornets women’s basketball team had a season low in scoring and shooting percentage in its 62-53 loss against the Bengals. The Hornets came in to the contest averaging 90 points per game.
The scoring woes came just two games after the Hornets set the Big Sky record for scoring the most points in a single game with 110 in its victory over North Dakota.
Sac State converted on just 18-66 attempts, including 7-33 from 3-point range. The Hornets had just 9 team assists compared to 15 turnovers.
Moreno and junior point guard Fantasia Hilliard combined for 23 of Sac State’s 53 points, but shot 7-24 overall and 2-13 from 3-point range.
Idaho State was led by senior guards Kara Jenkins and Lindsey Reed who combined for 26 points on 10-16 shooting. Reed tallied a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
As a team, the Bengals shot 57.1 percent and were able to secure a victory while scoring just the 62 points. It was the fourth time this season that Idaho state won a game in which they scored less than 65 points.
Sac State (13-5, 5-4) will travel to Ogden, Utah Saturday to take on Weber State. Tip-off will be at 1 p.m.
