Gymnastics squeaks out a win over Southeast Missouri

It came down to the last routine of the night for Sacramento State women’s gymnastics to clinch Friday’s meet over found a way to win a tight contest against Southeast Missouri University at the Nest.

The Hornets found a way to win the tight contest 193.150-193.100 when their best routine came at the end of the meet on the floor exercise. With help of juniors Dallas Smith and Kalliah McCartney scoring a 9.875 and 9.850, respectively.

Smith marked her career high on floor and matched her season high on beam with a 9.625.

Sac State maintained a slim advantage throughout the night as SEMO found a way to stay in the running with solid performances on both bars, 48.625, and beam, 47.900.

SEMO’s Taryn Vanderpool placed first on bars with a score of 9.875 and her teammate Alyssa Tucker owned beam scoring a 9.725.

The Hornets excelled tonight on bars as they notched their highest score of the season of a 48.900.

McCartney was Sac State’s only all-arounder of the night and tallied a 39.075 for first place.

With Friday’s win, the first of the season, Sac State will next face huge Causeway rivals UC Davis on Friday.
