Hornets fall in straight sets to UC Davis in Causeway Cup action

The Aggies were too much for the Hornet’s volleyball team on Tuesday as Sacramento State fell in straight sets (12-25, 17-25, 22-25) in Causeway Cup action at UC Davis.

Sac State dropped to 5-3 on the season while UC Davis improved to 4-4.

The Aggies tallied 56 total kills and finished the night with a hitting percentage of .373. The Hornets were held to just 29 kills and a .220 hitting percentage.

Junior outside hitter Valerie Brain of UC Davis had the top performance of the match with 15 kills.

For Sac State, senior right side hitter Kayla Beal led the Hornets with 8 kills and sophomore outside hitter Sloan Lovett followed with 7.

Although only committing seven errors compared to the Aggies’ 12, the Hornets were unable to negate the strong attack from their rivals.

Sac State will look to rebound from the loss as it prepares for the Bronco Volleyball Classic in Boise, Idaho. The weekend tournament begins Friday as the Hornets play a doubleheader against North Texas and Idaho.

Sac State will finish the tournament on Saturday in a matchup with host Boise State at 11:30 a.m.
