Students lined up to have their resumes professionally critiqued and their pictures taken for LinkedIn profiles all as part of Sacramento State’s Fall Career Fair.

The event was put on by the university’s career center and was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the University Ballroom, featuring 115 local and international companies seeking employees and interns.

Sac State holds one career fairs per semester for everyone, however, specific majors also hold smaller career fairs throughout the year.

“It benefits the school because it is part of the mission of Sac State to help students on their way to graduation but also to help them be employable,” said Sac State Internship Manager Candace McGee.

Throughout the event, employers like Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, the CIA and the FBI, offered business cards and professional advice to students seeking employment.

“We have the Career Fair to help our students find employment whether its through (a) full time position, internship or part time position,” McGee said.

Volunteers and interns from Sac State’s career center were responsible for critiquing resumes, checking students in and assisting with attendees concerns.

Kristina Vieira, 21, business administration, was just one of the volunteers at the event.

“Our school is here for personal and professional development,” Vieira said. “They want us to network with all the local employers and companies.”

Vieira attended the fair in spring 2013 and found a paid internship with Kohl’s, who was present at the event.

Ken Forsthoff, 28, mechanical engineering, said he had spoken with a faculty member about an internship and met a human resources recruiter for The Wine Group, based out of Livermore, Calif.

“I was just needing to build up my resume. I was looking for any job,”Forsthoff said. “At my internship, I took it very seriously. I showed up every day, acted professional, always wore a shirt, didn’t complain and it led to a full-time position.”

Forsthoff said he is the second engineering intern to be hired by the company.

Sac State’s career center is open five days a week Monday through Friday and offers various programs. The program one will talk about information about joining the CIA and FBI on Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
