The Color Run, a 5k that has been held in over 200 cities across the planet since its debut in January of last year. The run is now coming back to Sacramento. There are no winners, or official times. Participants are simply asked to wear white for the race. They are then doused with colorful food-grade cornstarch powders at each of four color stations. The stations will be set up near the kilometer markers along the run. The entire event will be capped off by the Finish Festival, a post-race party with music, dancing and much more cornstarch.
The Color Run Sacramento will be raising money for Girls on the Run of Greater Sacramento. The charity combines training for a 5 kilometer with healthy living education. Its aim is to provide third-grade through eighth-grade girls with the tools to become happy, healthy and confident. Interested parties can help Girls on the Run raise up to $14,000 by picking up a volunteer shift. Shifts are available Aug 1 through Aug. 3. Other volunteer opportunities are also available on the day of the event. They include handing out entry packets and throwing colorful powder.
The Color Run starts at 9 a.m. on Aug. 3. Registration for individual runners is $50 and $45 for teams of four or more.
