Staff picks: Where’s the best place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

State Hornet

Jane Park – Sam’s Hof Brau

Looking for somewhere to venture out for dinner on St. Patrick’s Day? Look no further than going to Sam’s Hof Brau located in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento.

For those not familiar with the words “Hof Brau,”according to thehotbrau.com, it means “Court brew” which “originally referred to the libations that were served to Germany’s royal courts. Given the devotion of the clientele frequents today’s Sam’s Hof Brau, they feel like royalty too.”

What makes this four-star rated restaurant a go-to in Sacramento is its affordability especially for college students. This place gives comfort food a whole new meaning and has a good selection of beer at unbeatable prices.

Anna Puccinelli – Fox and Goose

I recommend Fox and Goose for St. Patrick’s Day. I prefer casual pubs over clubbing and in the past, Fox and Goose has celebrated this holiday by serving green beer and Irish car bombs. It’s close enough to the other bars so you can bar hop after. It’s a lot of fun!

Cody Powell-McClintick – Pasty Shack

For a fun place to celebrate St. Paddy’s day or feel like having an evening with an Irish theme, Pasty Shack is your answer.

Located in east Sacramento at 4746 J St, Pasty Shack is an Irish-themed casual restaurant serving dishes based off of the traditional Irish Cornish pastry— essentially a cross between a pie and a burrito. The restaurant specializes in many variations of the Cornish pastry, such as vegetarian and even a Mexican-styled version.

I strongly recommend the Cornish, an Irish-themed pastry made up of beef, potatoes, onions, and their own signature seasoning. For a friendly, cozy environment with authentic Irish food, Pasty Shack is the place to go on St. Paddy’s day.

Hope Roberts – 16th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Since I am not 21, I won’t be drinking this St. Patrick’s Day, but I will be dressed in green, enjoying Irish culture and live music at the 16th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a free holiday event.

Happening near plenty of bars and restaurants, the parade’s location accommodates those that would like to drink as well.

The parade starts at 1:00 p.m. and is located at 2nd and L Street in Old Sacramento. Old Sacramento’s streets are filled every St. Patrick’s Day with Irish dancers, bagpipers, the color green and holiday enthusiasm flourishing. On Sacramentopress.com, the parade is advertised as “family-friendly and safe.”
