Idaho State too much for women’s basketball in second half

Kylie Kuhns’ 22-point game was not enough to make up for the Hornets’ 33 percent shooting.

Sacramento State women’s basketball (16-11, 11-7 BSC) went into the game tied for third with Idaho State (17-10, 12-6 BSC), but dropped down to fifth after today’s 81-61 loss Saturday at Reed Gym.

The win for the Bengals gives them a season sweep over the Hornets after being one of the only two conference teams to beat Sac State at The Nest.

The Hornets reached a 10-point lead about midway through the first half, but Idaho retaliated with a 12-0 run to turn the game around and give the Bengals a 41-32 score at halftime.

Kuhns broke the Big Sky career rebound record Thursday against Weber State and added another seven against the Bengals, while sophomore guard Fantasia Hilliard also scored 12 points.

Idaho’s two leading scorers had 17 points – Jessa Jeppesen with 13 rebounds and Ashleigh Vella with 12 rebounds and eight assists.

The Bengals made it to a 28-point lead with 2:35 left in the game after Jeppesen sunk her 17th and final point of the game.

Sac State returns home to The Nest for the last two games and will host Montana State, Thursday at 7 p.m.
