Playing on home court was not an advantage today.

Sacramento State women’s basketball (14-10, 9-6 BSC) faced Big Sky’s second-ranked Northern Colorado (15-9,12-3 BSC) for the second time this season, which resulted in a 81-73 loss and a sweep over the Hornets by the Bears.

This was only the second loss of the season for the Hornets at The Nest, which gives them a 9-2 record and home.

Sac State went into today’s game tied in third place, but dropped to fourth after the loss.

The only two Hornets in double digits were sophomore guard Alle Moreno and senior forward Kylie Kuhns with 19 points each.

Moreno hit five shots from 3-point range and Kuhns shot 9 of 12 from the field.

Kuhns also earned 12 rebounds, which put her at 11 double-doubles this season, but that was not enough to compete with Bears’ center Stephanie Lee’s 29-point game.

The Hornets were having a hard time finding the hoop as Sac State shot less than 40 percent on the day.

The score was tied 34-34 at halftime, but Sac State lost control as Northern Colorado pulled in front for the majority of the second half.

Sac State found a late comeback to come within two points with 3:29 left to play, but the Bears returned with a 7-0 run to spread the lead.

The Hornets will start out at Northern Arizona Feb. 23 as the first matchup of their three-game road trip.
