Sacramento State women’s basketball trumped Portland State, 88-82, tonight as sophomore guard Fantasia Hilliard earned herself a career-high of 28 points at the Peter W. Stott Center.

This Big Sky Conference win makes it the fourth straight win for Sac State (13-9, 8-5) over Portland (11-12, 5-9).

The Hornets’ largest lead was 14 in the first half with 2:29 left on the clock, resulting in a favorable 52-39 lead for the Hornets at halftime.

The Vikings never regained the lead.

Hilliard had 15 points in the first half and ended her high-scoring game shooting 10-of-16, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.

The team as a whole shot for 88 percent in free throws, which gave the Hornets a considerable advantage over the Vikings 60.6 free-throw percentage.

After five blocks in today’s game, senior forward Megan Kritscher is just 10 blocks away from tying the Big Sky record of 100 blocks in a single season.

The win was a team effort with junior guard Alle Moreno and senior forwards Kylie Kuhns and Natasha Torgerson in double figures.

Kuhns added 15 points and five rebounds, while Moreno had 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Torgerson matched Moreno’s 12 points – her fourth double-digit game this season.

The Hornets managed eight blocks and nine steals, showing their pressure defense.

The team will come home to host North Dakota on Thursday and try to defend its 8-1 record at The Nest. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
