As both intramural basketball seasons approach their conclusions, The Well at Sacramento State is hosting its seventh annual intramural all-star basketball game Friday at 4 p.m.

All-star men and women will play in separate games, and the two 10-player rosters in each will feature some of the standout players from the intramural season so far.

The two teams will be split up by the days of activity during the season, with Monday-Wednesday players battling Tuesday-Thursday players.

The intramural all-stars are hand-selected by a committee of The Well’s top officials based on statistics, athleticism and sportsmanship, said intramural sports supervisor Jairon Jackson.

Jackson said there are a lot of excellent players who will not be playing because of bad attitudes or missed games.

“The Well is about sportsmanship,” Jackson said. “We really try to pick out the people that best represent The Well and intramural basketball.”

Past all-star games had the gym packed with people for the game. This year there will be an announcer, music and bleachers set up to create a more exciting atmosphere, Jackson said. The men’s halftime entertainment will consist of a dunk contest and a 3-point shoot out.

“During the dunk contest last year, we had some guy jump over the bleachers. So it gets pretty legit,” Jackson said.

Sac State’s men’s basketball season just ended and the intramural all-star game is going to be the last high-level competitive basketball game the students will be able to see on campus until the Hornets’ season next fall.

“It’s a fun event because you get to watch players compete with a bunch of people at a high level,” Jackson said.  “I personally feel some of the all-star teams could compete with the collegiate teams.”

The Well gives Sac State students easy access to the game because it is on campus and free of charge.

“There’s going to be a lot of people there from different teams, sororities, fraternities and sport clubs,” Jackson said. “It’s a fun event. There will be a lot of different organizations out there and you’re going to meet a lot of people.”

There are only two weeks left of intramural basketball and this is the highlighted event besides the playoffs at the end of the season.

“The Hornets’ basketball season is over, so come support intramurals, have a good time and watch a good basketball game before you go out on Friday night,” Jackson said.
