April 9, 2008
Three Sacramento State State track and field athletes qualified for the Big Sky Championship over the weekend.
Junior distance runner Kristina Holtz set a Sac State school record in the steeple chase, running 10:56.99 and finishing in first place. She shattered the school record by almost 34 seconds. That time also automatically qualified her for the Big Sky Championship.
Freshman sprinter and hurdler Ronald Brookins ran a 10.86 in the 100 meter sprints and hurdled a 14.67 in the 110 hurdles. Brookins is currently in second place in the Big Sky Conference, and qualified for both 100 meter sprints and 110 meter hurdles in the conference championship.
Senior pole vaulter Daniel Imlach earned Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and met the regional standard in the pole vault by clearing 16-06.75. The next competeitor behind him trailed by 11.25 inches. Imlach is so far the best in the conference in his event this year.
