UPDATED 3:00 p.m. Thursday

A Sacramento State staff member died of heart failure after collapsing in Parking Structure III Thursday morning, an administrator confirmed.

University Police arrived at 7:06 a.m. to the scene of a single vehicle accident where David Landis, equipment operator for Facilities Services, was found.

Sacramento Metro Fire responded as well, but were unable to revive Landis, Sac State President Alexander Gonzalez said today in an e-mail to the campus community.

“Our thoughts are with his family, as well as his colleagues here at Sac State,” Gonzalez said.

Ron Richardson, associate vice president for Facilities Services, described Landis as dependable and engaged in his work. Richardson was one of the people at the scene when the accident transpired.

“I feel horrible … I’m still a bit in shock myself. I was there when paramedics were trying to revive him,” Richardson said.

Landis was hired in 1996 as a grounds worker before he was promoted to a light automotive equipment operator for the grounds department in 2005.
