The Sacramento State basketball team ended its five-game losing streak in dramatic fashion tonight, beating the Bears of Northern Colorado 74-70 in Sacramento. Freshman point guard Vinnie McGhee sank a 10-foot floater with 4.4 seconds remaining in regulation to end a 70-70 stalemate and give the Hornets the lead for good.

Sac State held a narrow three-point lead at the half and the game remained close throughout as the teams battled through six lead changes. The Hornets had a three-point lead with less than 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter when sophomore Bears guard Will Figures nailed a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in the game. McGhee then followed with his runner that sealed the game for Sac State.

McGhee led the way for the Hornets with a game-high 17 points. The freshman guard also recorded six assists and three steals while sitting out only two minutes the entire game.

Three other Hornets finished in double figures: Senior guard Clark Woods and senior forward Jason Davis both had 15 points while senior forward Justin Williams finished with 10.

The Hornets continue their three-game homestand Thursday night against Eastern Washington. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
