State Hornet

The Hornets are playing well with an 11-3 record and will start Big Sky Conference play against North Arizona tonight. Then they will face off against Northern Colorado on Saturday.

The Hornets will be defending their Big Sky championship. The team has won the league’s regular season and/or the tournament title in each of the last 10 years.

The Hornets have been named Big Sky champions for the last five consecutive seasons.

Having just finished being named champions of the University of San Francisco Invitational this past weekend, the Hornets continue to roll.

Senior Missie Stidham was named tournament MVP to go along with her .299 hitting percentage for the weekend.

After winning the tournament title, the Hornets have been put into national consideration for the top 25. Sacramento State has yet to be named into the CSTV/AVCA top 25, but they have recently received 33 votes.

The Hornets have been in control of conference competition for the last decade. The team has won 55 consecutive regular season matches against Big Sky competition since 1999.

The Hornets are 6-0 all-time against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, and 23-6 all-time against the Northern Colorado Bears. The Hornets currently have a six-match winning streak against the Bears, starting in 2004.

The Hornets first match will be on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Hornet’s Nest in Yosemite Hall. The team will take on Northern Colorado on Saturday, also starting at 7 p.m.
