Students can be enchanted by the rhythm of acrylic paint strokes at Janet Kahle?s “o.o.o.” (of obscure origin) exhibit at the art department?s Witt Gallery. Master of art student Kahle?s exhibit runs through Feb. 22, with a reception to follow that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit is open to the public between noon and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Masters of art student are required to present a selection of paintings much like a master?s thesis. Kahle says her exhibit is a reflection of her “attempt to express emotional or material states of being ? the spiritual nature of experience.”

Kahle specifies how her work “reflects awe and reverence for the earth and sense of [the] inter-connectedness with all things.” Plan to spend an hour in the gallery to appreciate the abstract paintings for which there are no narratives to rely on.

“Communication must come to the viewer as music without words comes to a listener,” says art Professor Elaine O?Brien.

Rooted in intuition and imagination, the abstract spatial concepts of Kahle?s paintings are achieved by scraping, dragging, wiping and washing paint onto and off of surfaces. The colors utilized by Kahle are an array of pale and subdued yellows, golds, tans and grays, with smatterings of blue, lavender, maroon and black.

The paintings on display are available for purchase, with prices ranging from $350 to $1400.
