Not ‘horney’
As members of the Sacramento State community, we are writing regarding the cartoon “Horney, Nutz and Cocky” published in the Jan. 30 edition of The State Hornet. We found the cartoon?s portrayal of “Dorm Girls” distasteful and dehumanizing. We were concerned about the cartoon?s objectification of women, as well as targeting a segment of the student population, i.e. dorm females, as a group to laugh at. It appears that the cartoon?s artist and your editors found the cartoon humorous and worthy to print ? we did not!

So long, Doc
Of the thousands of students enrolled here, I find it hard to believe I am the only one with Juvenile onset Diabetes.
According to Philip Siegel, a Health Center physician, I am the only one with the gall to expect services, prescriptions or even advice after purchasing Student Health Insurance. After a brief lecture, consisting of questions like, “Who do you have insurance with?” and “What exactly do you want?” I realized that expecting any kind of help from this individual was not a likely possibility. For 18 years the clinic has never had any services for diabetics (blood glucose testing, Hemoglobin A1c testing, etc.). Fine. What I don?t understand is why this man couldn?t have skipped his terse dialogue and just handed over the referral. You can give negative information without being a jerk.
I checked before leaving, and the pharmacy downstairs sells diabetic equipment (insulin and syringes). What am I missing here? I don?t exactly know what my rights are, but I am going to find out.
There is a point to this, besides exposing a most dour, unhelpful person employed at the Health Center. Diabetics, know your rights. And don?t put up with what you don?t have to.
Name withheld at writer?s request.
Not our hooligans
The violence associated with some of the other anti-globalization protests, as mentioned by Samantha Hinrichs, in her article, “On the slings and arrows of globalization” last week, was linked to some of the smaller radical groups. I knew people who were at Seattle during the riots there, and they said that it was mostly anarchists responsible for things getting out of hand. The press concentrated on the hooliganism instead of the mostly peaceful activity such as the large labor rally.
In New York City, there was an extra effort to keep things quiet to show respect for the Sept. 11 tragedy.
