Sac State overcrowded?

State Hornet Staff

This fall, semester enrollment is expected to reach a record 27,000 at Sacramento State as a result of the new wave of students reaching college age and increased recruitment efforts by the University. If the University estimates are correct, this will be an increase of over 1,000 students from the fall semester of last year. While we applaud the administration?s efforts in increasing accessibility to the University, The State Hornet has concerns over the immediate problems that could possibly come with increased enrollment. The ability of basic university facilities, ranging from parking spaces to food services, will be a test for the University?s ability to handle its record number of students. We hope that long lines and congestion will not be a problem as it has been in past semesters. Also, there should be a commitment to keep class sections available and to keep class sizes down. The level of learning must be kept high for each individual, regardless of the number of students on campus.

We hope the University is prepared to face these issues.

Over the course of the year, we will be measuring the success of the University in handling its record enrollment. We ask our readers to offer any suggestions or comments on the issues of University facilities and class quality at Sac State by contacting us at [email protected]. With your help, we hope our student body can benefit from its increasing size and not be hindered by it.
