When the Hive closes for semester break it will never open again.

The space which The Hive is currently operating has been subleased to Round Table Pizza, which will begin operating Spring semester.

According to Leslie Davis, the director of the student union, the Hive has been set to close for about a year. It would have closed at the beginning of the fall semester, “but some things take longer than they should,” Davis said.

The Hive now operates as a sports bar where students can watch a game and catch a meal.

“The Hive is a fun environment for watching the game,” student John Horwedel said.

The decision to put Round Table Pizza in The Hive was made by a committee made up of food service staff and the ASI president and was chaired by Nancy Pennebaker, the Special Assistant to the Executive Director at the Foundation.

Pennebaker said that they choose Valley Pizza Inc., who will own and operate the Round Table Pizza, because of

the food but also because they have a good relationship with the company now. The company currently provides the Round Table Pizza on campus.

Pennebaker attributed the need for change to the taste changes on campus. The Hive has been there for the entire three years that the union has been open. Davis and Pennebaker both expect the quality of food and service to improve. The current Hive employees, who

work for the Foundation, will continue to work though it may not be at Round Table.
