Men’s track and field beat Aggies at Causeway Classic

Sacramento State track and field traveled to UC Davis to compete in the Causeway Classic meet on Friday, May 1 at Woody Wilson Track.

At the dual meet, the Hornets’ men’s team won against the Aggies. The Sac State men earned 108 points. They accumulated 24 more points out of the 18 events. The women lost to the Aggies. They were shy seven points, as Sac State accumulated 92.50 points in the 18 events.

The 18 events the men and women’s teams competed in were the hammer throw, javelin throw, pole vault, long jump, shot put, discus throw, high jump, 4×100 meter relay, 1500-meter run, 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 400-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, 3000-meter run and 4×400 meter relay.

The women had exceptional performances at the Causeway Classic.

In the hammer throw Erinn Jones came in second with a distance of 179 feet, 11 inches. Sophomore Tyhana Cooper came in fourth and junior Elaine Weaver placed seventh.

Sac State women took the top two spots in the javelin throw. Nikki Pappelis won with a throw of 117 feet, 3 inches. Elizabeth Venzon was second with 114 feet, 2 inches.

First place in pole vault was Siobhan Anderson with 12 feet, 1.50 inches. Molly Pearlman and Danielle Brandon tied for second with 12-01.50

The long jump resulted in Sac State’s Kassandra Corrigan taking the win. Nala Payton and Aysia Smith finished in fourth and fifth respectively.

The women’s shot put resulted in Jones finishing in first with 51 feet, 1.00 inches. The senior also did well in the discus with a throw of 156 feet, 3 inches. She was second in discus.

Kristen Robinson won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.18 seconds. Fellow athlete Corrigan ran 14.31 seconds, coming in second.

The women won the 4×400 relay. Sac State’s women’s team consisted of Brianna Cole, Joy Weems, Stephanie Blumm and Dominique Whittington. The Hornets ran the race in 3 minutes, 40.31 seconds and beat the Aggies.

The men’s team also competed well at the Causeway Classic.

In the hammer throw James Kinloch was second with 191 feet. Third place went to Zach Coniglio with a throw of 184 feet, 4 inches.

Garrett Jacobs won javelin for the men with a throw of 181 feet, 07 inches.

Sac State men took the top two spots in pole vault. Steven Pust (16-02.00) won and Ryan Pust was second (15-02.25).

Men’s long jump was a success for Michael Turner, Alec Acevedo, Cory Barger and Julian Young. They earned the top four spots, respectively.

Coniglio performed well in shot put. He won with 59 feet, 3 inches.

In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Aric Walden was first, Casey Wheeler second and Austin Tinsley third.

Acevedo then came in second in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 48.04 seconds. Osaretin Ogbeide ran 49.02 seconds and placed fourth.

The men’s team won the 4×400-meter relay. Sac State’s Casey Wheeler, Evan Crayton-Crogan, Ogbeide and Kyle Orloff ran 3:12.35. The Aggies’ ran 3:13.73.
