Track gives strong showing in 4×400 relays at Mt. SAC Relays

Sacramento State track and field competed in the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday and Saturday in Walnut, California.

The meet resulted in strong performances by the men and women’s teams in the 4×400-meter relays.

For the women, Dominique Whittington, Brianna Cole, Stephanie Blumm and Joy Weems competed in the 4×400. The women ran a remarkable time of 3 minutes and 41.55 seconds. Their time ranked No. 2 in Sac State history and gave them the lead in the Big Sky Conference.

Casey Wheeler, Evan Crayton-Crogan, Paul Lyons and Osaretin Ogbeide ran for the men. They ran a time of 3:12.96. Their performance ranked them ninth in Sac State history and second in the Big Sky Conference for the season.

The men and women also had several athletes run in the 100-meter dash. Caprice Powell finished in sixth place in the women’s 100 with a time of 11.51 seconds. For the men, Eric Adorno (10.48), Bryan Cuellar (10.80) and Michael Turner (10.90) ran.

Senior Powell also ran in the 200-meter dash and came in seventh with a time of 23.50 seconds.

Whittington had a strong performance in the 400-meter, as she came in fourth with a time of 54.00 seconds.

The 110-meter hurdles for the men resulted in Lyons placing 10th with 14.22, Aric Walden in 12th with 14.39 and Austin Tinsley in 37 with 15.45.

On the women’s side, Kristen Robinson competed in the 100-meter hurdles. She ran 13.94 and finished in the 21st spot.

Blumm also ran in the 400-meter hurdles. She came in 13th with 1:00.89. Wheeler represented the Sac State men in the 400-meter hurdles and ran 54.64.

In shot put, Zach Coniglio competed for the men and Erinn Jones for the women. Coniglio finished in eighth with a distance of 57 feet, 2 ¼ inches. Jones came in 11th with 45 feet, 8 inches.

On the final day of the meet, Lyons competed in the 400-meter hurdles and placed 14th with a time of 54.37.

The Mt. SAC Relays was one of three meets the outdoor track and field team competed in this weekend. The Hornets also had athletes compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California on Friday and in Cerritos, California on Saturday at the Beach Invitational.

The next meet for Sac State track and field will be April 24 and 25 for the Brutus Hamilton Open in Berkeley, California.
