Hornets volleyball lose to Montana 3-1

Sacramento State lost this evening to the University of Montana 3-1 (16-25, 21-25, 27-25, 23-25).

The first set of the match was the Hornet’s worst performance hitting only .049 with their match-high ten errors. The women had 41 total attacks in this set and 12 kills. The Grizzlies only had one error and hit .375. Montana won with a score of 16-25.

The second set was another loss for Sac State but had a close score of 21-25. The women hit .115 and had only two errors, their lowest amount of the match. With 26 attacks, the Hornets only had 5 kills. 

The third set was a successful one for Sacramento, winning with a score of 27-25. The women hit .103 with 58 attacks and 15 kills. The Grizzlies had eight errors in this set and hit .118. 

Coach Ruben Volta said the match was a close one almost every set and the third set was when the Hornets fought and pulled through.

“A couple of the games were really close and we had the right skills at the right time in that set,” Volta said.

The fourth set was the final set of the match, with Montana taking the win at 23-25. The Grizzlies hit .200 while the Hornets hit .167. Sac State had 48 attacks and 15 kills in the last set. 

Volta said that Montana put the pressure on the Hornets to perform tonight.

“Montana played well in tonight’s match, especially defensively,” said Volta.

This loss puts the Hornets at 1-9 in the Big Sky Conference and 6-19 overall. Montana now stands at 5-5 in conference.
