First conference win for women’s volleyball

Sacramento State women’s volleyball produced its first win of conference, sweeping Montana State tonight with a final match score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-17).

Coach Ruben Volta said the team was excited and ready for today’s win.

“I would almost say just about everything clicked for us today,” Volta said.

Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Stanley led the Hornets hitting .579 with 11 digs, 19 attacks and 15 kills. Junior outside hitter Sloan Lovett hit the second highest for the team at .250. The entire team hit .281 in tonight’s match with 40 kills and a total of 96 attacks.

In the first set the Hornets hit .250, Montana State hitting only .152. The women had 28 total attacks with 11 kills. With only four errors the squad took the win at 25-20. Montana State had a match high of nine errors in the first set.

The second set was another win for the women hitting .243 with a match high 37 attacks and 15 kills. Montana State hit .139 with eight errors. The Hornets had six errors in the second half.

The third and final set was a fast win for Sac State at 25-17. With only three errors, the women hit their match high at .355. The squad had 31 attacks and 14 kills in the final set.

Volta stated the women played at a steady and consistent pace today and he was happy that his team played well even when the other team performed well. 

“I was really happy and thought we played really well, even as the other team played well too,” Volta said. 

The team is ready to take the momentum from this win and use it moving forward.
