Hornets finish eighth at Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

Freshman Chloe Bartek led Sacramento State women’s golf team at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic as the women placed eighth overall, Tuesday at the Southern Dunes Golf Club.

The Hornets competed in a field of 20 and finished 9 strokes ahead of Big Sky Conference foe Portland State (921), but came up three strokes shy of tying Brigham Young University and conference opponent University of Montana (909) for sixth place.

The women combined for a 305-301-306-912 total in a tournament featuring eight teams in the Big Sky. New Mexico State shot 297-296-294-887 to claim first place in the tournament.

Bartek shot the lowest score for the Hornets in the second round at one-under-par (71), and recorded a personal best 54-round hole at 77-71-76-224. The freshman placed ninth overall in the tournament.

Sophomore Rockelle Sande recorded her personal best 54-hole round shooting 78-74-76-228 and tied for 22nd.

Senior Lisa Persson led in the first round of the tournament for Sac State as she shot a 72. The senior continued that performance in the third round with the lowest score at two-over-par (74) and tied for 17th at 72-81-74-227.

Senior Tiffany Nichols and junior Sagee Palavivatana fell out of the top-30 for the Hornets. Nichols shot 78-78-80-236 placing her tied for 58th and Palavivatana tied for 71st at 81-78-81-240.

Persson has taken over as the No. 1 player and former top player Palavivatana fell to No. 3. Nichols moved into position No. 2 to round out the top-3 for Sac State on the season.

The women will take the course for their final scheduled tournament of the season on April 21-23 in Chandler, Ariz. for the Big Sky Championship.
