Women’s golf finishes sixth despite leading after first round

The Hornets failed to capitalize on their early 4-stroke lead in the Fresno State Lexus Classic, and fell short in competition over the next two.

Sacramento State women’s golf finished sixth overall out of seven, shooting 300-312-313-925. Host Fresno State tied with Boise State for first place at 903.

Lisa Persson recorded her lowest single round score of the season at 2-under-par in the first round, but finished over par in her final rounds.

The senior tied for third place overall at 70-79-75-224 and recorded her third top-5 finish in her career as a Hornet.

Fellow senior Tiffany Nichols contributed a 76-77-79-232, which was the second lowest total for the Sac State.

No. 2 player Sagee Palavivatana struggled in the first two rounds and recorded the highest overall score for the Hornets at 79-84-78-241. In her final round she was able to recover, and shot the second lowest score on the day for Sac State.

Natalie Bodnar tied for 30th and shot 81-75-81-237. Rockelle Sande returned to tournament competition, where the sophomore tied for 33rd overall at 75-81-82-238.

The Hornets will take the course in their final regular season tournament at the Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz. on April 11.
