Sacramento State’s cross country team hosted the Inter-Regional Jamboree at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex Thursday.

The men’s team finished seventh in the 8K with 221 team points while the women finished fourth in the 5K with 102 team points.

Senior Reesey Byers led the men’s squad, placing 6th with a time of 23:47, and a pace of 4:47. Senior Rajpaul Pannu of St. Mary’s would take first with a time of 23:28.

This was the second consecutive event the men found themselves in seventh place, finishing with the same result in last week’s Sept. 28 Stanford Invitational.

Six teams finished ahead of Sacramento State; with UCLA finishing first with 54 points, Cal Poly with 67, UC Santa Barbara with 86, UC Davis with 111, California with 123 and Long Beach State with 165 points.

Seniors Rachel Mitchell and Lauren Mugnaini proved why they are the women’s team leaders, as they finished in the top 10 for the second consecutive meet.

Mitchell’s time of 16:49 was good for fourth place while Mugnaini followed in seventh, with a time of 16:58. Junior Kelsey Santisteban of California claimed the first place crown with a time of 16:23.

After team totals were calculated, the end result was UCLA finishing first with 77 points, Cal Poly with 78, UC Davis with 88, and Sac State with 102.

The women’s fourth place finish was the lowest they’ve placed so far this season, after finishing 2nd at both the Stanford Invitational and the Aggie Opener Aug 30. They finished first at the Hornet Jamboree Sept 14.

The Hornets will travel to San Francisco next week when they take part in the San Francisco State Invitational Oct. 11 at Golden Gate Park.
