Bates led the Hornets with his career best single round score of 69 on Tuesday as he finished the tournament tied for fifth overall individually. The redshirt freshman also tied for 10th in school history with his three round score of 71-71-69, 211.

It was the first win for the men’s golf team since capturing the American Sky Title in the spring of 2012.

Men’s golf pulled away from the competition after the first day when it tied the second lowest round in school history, 286-280-285, 851. The Hornets 5-under-par in the third round was the difference maker in why the team finished in first.
