The Sacramento State Women’s Soccer team fell to the University of Pacific in a 3-0 shut out. Pacific capitalized on Sac State’s minor mistakes throughout the match.

Sac State kept pressure on Pacific with 10 corner kicks and five shots at on goal.

“With our 10 corner kicks we had chances to score,” said Head Coach Randy Dedini. “We just have to find a way to finish our chances by putting them in the goal.”

Dedini said the biggest strength of the game against Pacific was the team being able to take what they learned in practice and apply it to the game.

“The team had been working all week on being able to change the point of attack during the game, which the team executed,” said Coach Dedini.

For next Sunday’s game against Fresno State the team plans to change up a few things in order to get different results.

“The team just needs to clean up the soft goals because Pacific scored three soft goals against us today,” said Coach Dedini. “The communication and the back line just has to be better so we do not have those mishaps.”

In the beginning of the game, the flow went back and forth between the two teams.

“The beginning of every game is rough,” said defender Laura Bahno. “But towards the end of the game I felt we were controlling it because without looking at the scoreboard you would not know that the Pacific were up by three.”

Sac State’s defense was unable to keep Pacific out of its goal box, allowing three goals on eight shots. At the other end of the field, Pacific’s defense kept all five Hornet shots out of the net.

“I think our offense and defense both played well and it was just stupid mistakes that we gave up,” said Caitlin Pulver, forward. “Our offense could have had goals and defense could have stopped goals, but it’s something that will come with time.”

Despite the disappointment, Pulver tried to remain positive, saying that the team definitely showed improvement over its past couple performances.

Sac State’s next home game will be against San Francisco on Friday.
