MEN’S SOCCER

Defeating Santa Clara, the number 2 team in the nation, 2-1 in double OT on Friday at Hornet Field, the men’s soccer team got the season off to an impressive start. They followed this victory with a 5-0 win over CSU Stanislaus on Sunday at Hornet Field. The 2-0 start is the best start that the team has ever recorded (1991-present). They will host San Francisco St. Wednesday at 5 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

They are also off to their best start in school history, which spans seven years. After Sunday’s 2-2 tie with Wyoming, the women improved to 3-0-1. On Thursday the Hornets shutout San Jose St. 2-0. The team will host Eastern Washington on Wednesday at 3 p.m., and attempt to stay undefeated.

FOOTBALL

They got the win, but it was closer than expected. The Hornets were victorious 24-21 at Saint Mary’s on Saturday, recovering an onside kick with a minute remaining to seal the win. Senior running back Charles Roberts rushed for 219 yards, pulling within 1,810 of the all-time NCAA rushing record.

They will host Cal Poly on Saturday at 6:05 at Hornet Stadium on Saturday.

CROSS COUNTRY

The first home meet for the Sac State cross country team in three years, was a success. The meet was held at Lake Natoma on Saturday, with the women finishing in second place overall and the men taking the third spot overall. The team will compete in the San Francisco invitational on Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL

The Sac State women’s volleyball started off their season with a trip to Stockton over the weekend, and came back with a 1-2 record in the Pacific Tournament. They will host Fresno Pacific on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Hornet Gym, in the first home match of the year.
